What is a Pub Crawl?

Let's first have a look at how Wikipedia defines a pub crawl:

"A pub crawl (sometimes called a bar tour, bar crawl or bar- hopping) is the act of one or more people drinking in multiple pubs or bars in a single night, normally walking to each one between drinking." (Source: Wikipedia.org) So originally a pub crawl was a group of friends gathering in a pub or bar, having a drink, and then walking to the next pub or bar. The more bars visited and the more drinks consumed, the more the word "crawl" makes sense.

Nowadays, pub crawling still works that way. However, quite a decent number of "professional" pub crawls have evolved. On these tours, it’s not only friends that meet up in order to have a good time, but also travellers, back packers and local party people participate. For travellers pub crawls are an excellent possibility to get to know the nightlife of their travel destination, make friends with locals as well as fellow travellers and have a really good time! These bar or party tours are usually accompanied by one or more guides who know the best places to go to and lead the group from pub to pub. Most pub crawls charge a small admission fee, but offer free drinks, free tickets and discounts during the tour. Furthermore one avoids queuing in front of the pub/ bar/ club like the other guests there.
